Food Is Not a Reward or Punishment

Food can easily become tied to ideas of deserving.

A productive day can make a meal feel earned, while an enjoyable meal can make you feel as though you need to compensate. But food is not a prize for being productive, and it is not a consequence for having enjoyed yourself. Your need for nourishment does not depend on how “good” your day was.

A gentler relationship with food leaves room for nourishment, enjoyment and flexibility without turning meals into a measure of character.
